Join Our Summer Reading Plan – Starting TODAY!
For the past 4 years, I have loved using the summers, which are so easy for students to waste, to be intentional about getting in the Word and prayer. For our Jr Highers, we had the Proverbs, John, Mark, and Romans Summer Challenge where they had to pray, read, watch a devotional, and answer application questions each day. This was great for them because they need the extra help and structure that the challenge offered!
Especially coming off of camp where we focused on numbering our days, I want our high school students to use their summer well also! So, I want to start a “challenge” for our high schoolers but with a few different goals than Jr High.
Step One: Join the Plan! 📖
I am just discovering the great tools found in the YouVersion Bible App. There is a feature where you can invite friends to join your reading plan which allows you to see their progress, keep them accountable, and share your reflections each day!
This summer, we are going through SUMMERTIME PSALMS! The Bible reading plan will go through one Psalm a day and has a short devotional for each one. Then, on Wednesday Nights, we will pick various Psalms and take a deeper dive into them!
Here’s what you have to do to join the plan:

Step Two: Pray, Read, Reflect! 🙌
Start with prayer, then read the Psalm, then read the devotional, then use the “Talk It Over” feature to comment your reflection on the Psalm!
For some, this plan is a great ADD ON to their already existing reading plan since it is only one Psalm a day. For those new to reading, this is a great START! I always encourage new readers to not overwhelm themselves with massive plans but to start simple in the beginning in order to establish the discipline of reading.
Step Three: Community 🤝
On August 1st, everyone who participates is invited to meet up at Hush Coffee Roasters from 8:30-10:30 am where we will reflect on the Psalms, pray, and fellowship together!
But I think the value of this app and reading plan is how we can keep each other accountable by viewing each other’s progress. This is real life – we’re not always gonna have someone offering us a party if we read our Bibles for a month. But we CAN always have accountability with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
My hope is that students would encourage each other to read and be able to reflect on the Psalms they read while they are together. I would love for students to get together, on their own initiative, to meet, read, pray, and reflect on Scripture together!
So, join us and start the plan today!
In Him,
Terrell
